Spirit also has amazing deals to Las Vegas with flights to Sin City starting at just $54 from Austin, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and more.

Spirit is a low-cost airline and fares are subject to limited availability and additional terms. Passengers must also pay extra for things like baggage fees on top of the fares.

In addition to a cheaper fare, travelers who join the airline’s Saver$ Club, which can be purchased for a yearly fee, receive discounts on baggage, seat selection, and more.

But even non-members can now access those perks with Spirit’s new status-matching program, which the airline introduced last month. The program allows travelers with access to dozens of other loyalty programs to receive perks like free checked bags and seat selection.

The sale comes ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which is expected to be one of the busiest on record. In total, 42.3 million Americans are expected to travel and nearly 3.4 million of them are expected to fly.

The deal comes on the heels of Southwest’s decision to significantly reduce midweek flying capacity next year due to a shift in the type of traveler flying post-pandemic. The airline also plans to launch new flights from California to both Boise, ID, and Portland, OR, in October, and recently launched flights between Long Beach and Kansas City.

The Team Behind This Trendy NYC Bar Is Opening a New Train-themed Pub in Moynihan Station

For any traveler who’s a bit too early for their Amtrak train, or wants a spot to figure out the first thing to do upon arriving in New York City, will soon have a place to go.

Right in the beautifully redone Moynihan Train Hall will be a new outpost for travelers looking for a post or pre-train beverage, known as The Irish Exit. Created by the team behind the world-known Dead Rabbit — complete with T+L approved espresso martinis — in Manhattan’s Financial District, the new location will open its doors this fall.

This quick service venue with QR code menus will cater to busy travelers — traveling via Amtrak or through Penn Station — but it will still hold the principles of The Dead Rabbit with their food and cocktail menu.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our company to create a well executed concept in transactional environments,” managing partner Jack McGarry told Travel + Leisure. “Our goal is to provide our customers with an excellent and playful exit to Ireland, inspiring the name, while they are on the go.”

Travelers will be able to pick up a pint of Guinness as well as a robust selection of aged and unaged Irish spirts and whiskey, domestic beers, frozen drinks and much more. And keeping on theme with train travel, we’re told the interior will be a nod to retro rail decor.

Dead Rabbit music director Liam Craig will also be curating sounds to provide an elevated experience even for the diner in the biggest rush.

Of the bar, McGarry said it will “challenge paddywhackery and subpar Irish and Irish Pub experiences in America, providing our customers with something relevant, contemporary, and engaging.”

The 216-seat bar at Moynihan will also serve as a blueprint for a scaled travel concept for airports, service areas and other train stations starting in 2024.

And let’s not forget, a pint of Guinness is still delicious even if you order it off a QR code.

This Low-cost Airline Is Celebrating Its New Route to Puerto Rico With $99 Flights — but You’ll Need to Book Soon

Avelo Airlines is launching a flight to Puerto Rico — its first route outside the U.S. — and is celebrating with a $99 flight sale from now until August 6.

Low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines will launch flights to Puerto Rico this fall, marking the airline’s first-ever Caribbean destination and its latest expansion plans.

The airline, which first launched in 2021 out of the Hollywood Burbank Airport in Los Angeles, will start flying between southern Connecticut and San Juan on Nov. 15, according to Avelo. The new flights will operate twice each week from the Tweed-New Haven Airport to Puerto Rico’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, flying on a Boeing Next-Generation (NG) 737 aircraft.

“With a large and increasing number of Puerto Ricans calling Connecticut home, this service will make reconnecting with friends and family easier and more affordable than ever,” Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said in a statement. “And with winter right around the corner, this Caribbean island treasure is the latest example of how Avelo is inspiring travel in new and exciting ways for Southern Connecticut.”

Levy added: “At the same time, we expect the affordability and convenience of this new route will inspire a meaningful number of travelers to visit Connecticut from Puerto Rico. This is a win-win opportunity for Connecticut and Puerto Rico.”

To celebrate the new route, Avelo is launching one-way fares starting at just $99. To take advantage, travelers must book by Aug. 5 and travel by Feb. 14, 2024. However, travelers must still pay additional fees for things like baggage and seat assignments.

The new route will bring Avelo’s reach to 47 different destinations across 25 states and one U.S. territory. From its base in Connecticut alone, the airline will now serve 18 different destinations.

Since launching in 2021, Avelo has continued to expand, adding East Coast flights in 2022, bringing commercial flights back to Delaware, and announcing a Las Vegas base earlier this summer. The carrier operates a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, including the Next-Generation 737-700s and 737-800s.

7 Charming Monsoon Excursions

The monsoon transforms the rugged terrain of the Western Ghats into a lush wonderland that orders us to go see its beauty.

The magical landscape of the Sahyadris is rich in verdant forests, misty mountains, spouting cascades, forts, dams, lakes, full-spate rivers and spectacular views that have to be experienced.

Hitting the hills is the best way to rejuvenate during the peak of the rainy season.

We have curated a few relatively safe spots for weekend getaways, where you can enjoy this to the maxiumum.

Remember: It is advisable to check the weather forecast before venturing out. And always, always be safe!

1.Sondai Fort

Tucked inside the Matheran hill range of the mighty Sahyadris, Sondai Fort is an easy, one-day, hike in Raigad district.

Even though it’s called a ‘fort’, in reality, it is a watch tower that was used during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s reign. The name is derived from goddess Sondai, whose sacred temple is the pinnacle of this 2 km-long trek.

At the summit point, you are offered breathtaking vistas of the almost fluorescent green surroundings and the backwaters of Morbe Dam. There are some water cisterns here as well, but the water is not potable anymore.

After finishing the hike, one can relish the rustic culinary flavours of Maharashtra in the base village, Sondewadi — piping hot vada-pav, misal-pav, and zunka-bhakri are a must try!

Nearest town: About 12 km from Karjat; Karjat is located 85 km from Mumbai.

What else to explore: Matheran, Morbe Dam, Prabalgad, Irshalgad, Kothaligad.

2.Mangi-Tungi

Located near the Maharashtra-Gujarat border in Nashik district, Mangi-Tungi is a Jain pilgrimage site that consists of two hills — Mangi and Tungi, connected by a whopping 4,500 stairs!

The biggest draw of this trek is the Statue of Ahimsa, which is a recently constructed 108 feet-tall idol of Lord Rishabhdev. This statue is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the tallest Jain idol in the world.

Nearest town: About 11 km from Taharabad; Taharabad is located 113 km from Nashik on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway.

What else to explore: Trimbakeshwar temple, the Salher-Salota fort, which is the highest fort in Maharashtra.

3.Kondane Caves

Cosily nestled inside the Rajmachi Wildlife Sanctuary, which is well-known for its mammoth squirrels, the Kondane caves is a place to experience the stunning richness of Buddhist architecture.

During the monsoon, the charm of this spot is multiplied by a number of waterfalls flowing from above the caves.

An easy, short, hike takes you through dense forests and past pretty waterfalls, all of which will compel you to take photos.

Kondane is also another route to the Rajmachi Fort, which involves moderate grade trekking.

Nearest town: About 12 km from Karjat; Karjat is located 85 km away from Mumbai.

What else to explore: River and temples in the base village of Kondivade, waterfalls, Rajmachi Fort.

4.Karnala Fort

Situated within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary, Karnala Fort is a rock-cut pillar that served as a watchtower during the old days.

One has to walk through a deep forest with easy ascents in order to reach the top. The monsoon showers change the face of this entire region giving it extra sparkle.

Remember vehicles are strictly not allowed inside the park and one must explore the sanctuary only on foot.

Nearest town: About 17 km from Panvel; Panvel is located 35 km from Mumbai.

What else to explore: Karnala Bird Sanctuary, Prabalgad Fort, Gadeshwar Dam.

5.Pandavkada Waterfall

Pandavkada is a 107 metre-steep plunge-type waterfall, which is right in the heart of Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar town. It has a sister waterfall named Nangrya waterfall that flows some distance away.

This gorgeous waterfall has an association with the Mahabharat, and hence the name. It is said that the Pandavas bathed in this waterfall during their exile.

Today, tourists flock here to enjoy its magnificence during the rainy season when the waterfall cascades down in full glory.

Nearest town: About 4 km from Kharghar; Kharghar is located 28 km from Mumbai.

What else to explore: Kharghar hills, gurdwara, ISKCON temple, the golf course at Kharghar.

6.Karla Caves

Karla caves or Karli caves is one of the three group caves along with the Bhaje caves and Kondane caves located near Lonavala.

A fine specimen of rock-cut architecture, this ancient Buddhist shrine is a must see for its grand chaityagriha or prayer hall. Interestingly, the entrance of the cave has a temple dedicated to the goddess Ekvira.

Nearest town: About 11 km from Lonavala; Lonavala is located 67 km from Pune.

What else to explore: Ekvira Devi temple, Visapur Fort, Pavana lake, Lohagad.

7.Kundalika River

White water rafting near Mumbai? Oh yes, the gushing waters of the Kundalika river is most suitable for this adventure sport at scenic Kolad in Raigad district.

Dubbed as the Rishikesh of Maharashtra, the hamlet has become a go-to place for those who enjoy rafting and kayaking or trekking, camping, and nature walks.

From luxurious resorts to cottages and tents, there’s an array of options for accommodation and one can spend a fun weekend at the riverside
