Norwegian Cruise Line stated that “vaccinated guests are free to enjoy all public areas of the ship without masks,” while unvaccinated guests will be required to wear masks in indoor public areas and in outdoor areas where social distancing is not possible. The company also said that it will continue to require all passengers to wear masks during embarkation and disembarkation, in elevators, and in other designated indoor areas.
Royal Caribbean’s policy is similar, stating that vaccinated passengers will not be required to wear masks in outdoor areas, but will need to wear them indoors and in crowded outdoor areas, while unvaccinated passengers will be required to wear masks in all public areas.
Both cruise lines have stated that they will continue to follow other health and safety protocols, including increased cleaning and sanitation measures, social distancing guidelines, and testing requirements for passengers and crew members.
These policy changes come as more and more people around the world are being vaccinated against COVID-19 and as the cruise industry prepares to resume operations after a year of shutdowns and cancellations due to the pandemic.
